The appeal of this residential construction project is not only based on its location. On the top of a hill north of the city of Lisbon, the Colina dos Cedros residence impresses with its unobstructed panoramic views, its size and its bright facade design in white and gold. Together with the responsible architect Olavo Dias, it was important for the company 3A Composites that this privileged location is also reflected in a refined and expressive architecture and has therefore opted for the design-oriented brand ALUCOBOND^®.

In direct relation to a new pedestrian zone and the renovation of a street, three new building complexes have been created in the urban area of Colinas do Cruzeiro. Built in different construction phases, the apartments are intended to offer their residents original living quarters of different sizes and a direct reference to the adjacent landscape. The name becomes the program, because for Olavo Dias as an architect, one goal was to combine comfort and aesthetics at the highest level in all three residences. This is also intended to meet the increasing demand for private housing in the area.

Long-lasting exclusivity

With the exclusivity in mind, energy efficiency and the reduction of environmental pollution were decisive aspects in the planning and construction process. This is particularly evident in the facade design, which consists of a hung and ventilated facade made of ALUCOBOND^® composite panels.

“The product idea of our ALUCOBOND^® facade panel is designed for sustainability: Due to the layer structure, only a thin layer of aluminum is required to achieve maximum output in terms of product properties such as stiffness and flatness. And that at an extremely low weight,” explains Frank Weigelt, Chief Business Officer Architecture Europe at 3A Composites. “ALUCOBOND ^® can also be correctly recycled, even after a 70-year period of use as a cladding material of a ventilated facade as certified in the EPD, so that the aluminum can be reused in the same quality.”

Uniformly covered with a coil-coating, the aluminum panels are ideal for the original building shapes and at the same time allow for uncomplicated installation. Thanks to their weather resistance, they are visually and economically particularly efficient, sustainable and maintenance-free – which are decisive for a building complex of this size with high demands.

Tested ecological assessment

It also ensures that the residence will not lose its elegant radiance for years to come, as Olavo Dias has opted for an architecture in a white silk gloss with golden accents. This aesthetic is to be preserved for a long time. As the ALUCOBOND^® composite panels also meet the strict fire protection guidelines, they could be used throughout the entire residential complex. The highest architectural quality and sustainability must therefore not be mutually exclusive. And not only for the close relationship to the surrounding national ecological reserve, but also for the residents, it is a further plus point that the facade panels do not release any environmentally hazardous substances throughout their entire life cycle. And even after years of use, they could be separated and recycled in a material-appropriate manner. Brilliant prospects in really many ways.
